Everyone Laughs At This Shelter Dog Because He Looks Like A “Hippopotamus” Yet He Is Trying To Satisfy Someone

When Wally initially came to the Town of Islip Animal Shelter, it was clear he’d had a difficult life. He was about 10 years old when he came in as a stray, and it was evident he’d spent most of his life outside. Despite everything he’d been through, all Wally needed from the start was someone to love him, and his new shelter pals jumped right in to give him all the love and attention he’d been lacking.

Wally had a serious skin infection and was blind in one eye, among other medical difficulties, and he certainly looked unusual. His new pals were concerned that his unusual appearance might turn off potential families, but they hoped that everyone else would be able to see the great dog they’d quickly grown in love with.

“He loves to slobber on you and will do anything for some food,” veterinary technician Danielle Gorle of the Town of Islip Animal Shelter told The Dodo. “He also likes to just hang out and not do anything.”

Wally has so much love to give and just wants to find a family to share it with — but it’s been more than a year, and the adorable dog is still at the shelter.

Wally, a senior dog, just wants to live out his golden years in peace, and his rescuers are trying to find him a forever family as soon as possible, since shelter life is beginning to take its toll on him.

“He seems to be declining,” Gorle observed. “When he initially came in, he was cheerful. He likes to get out when he can, but he appears miserable in his kennel.”

Wally would thrive in a calm environment without stairs, children under the age of 15, and other pets. He also requires a family that knows his medical needs – but other than that, all Wally need is love, and he’ll give it to you in full.

Wally had a difficult start in life, and all he wants now is to spend the remainder of his days snuggled up with a family who loves him.
